Willie Nelson charged with drug possession

Country singer-songwriter Willie Nelson has been charged with drug possession.

Marijuana and magic mushrooms were found on Nelson's tour bus during a routine police inspection in Louisiana. State police spokesman Willie Williams said the bus was stopped early on Monday morning near Lafayette, he added

"When the door was opened and the trooper began to speak to the driver, he smelled the strong odour of marijuana. There was no trouble whatsoever. They were all cooperative."

Police seized 0.7kg of marijuana and 91grams of mushrooms, which cause the user to hallucinate. The 73-year-old singer and four tour crew members - including his sister Bobbie, 75 - were issued citations for the drugs and released. The driver had his commercial driving privileges suspended in addition to the citation.

The 'Funny How Time Slips Away' singer could face six months in jail and an unspecified fine, police said.

Nelson has always publicly expressed his support for drug use and has campaigned for the legalisation of cannabis.

At the time of writing, Nelson's spokesman had no information about the arrest.

'Jackass' star Johnny Knoxville recently revealed he had failed to keep up with the country legend, during a cannabis smoking session. He told Playboy magazine

"When Willie Nelson passes you a joint, you don't say no. I was on Mars for six hours."

I love that fact that the police are saying there was no trouble and they where very cooperative - of course they where they were stoned!!!! I can't believe that they would put Willie Nelson in jail because of this, when over in the UK Pete Doherty is constantly arrested for possesion of hard drugs and has still not been put away

Daryl Hannah arrested

Alex
14th June 2006

Daryl Hannah was arrested along with 16 other protestors in Los Angeles's South Central Urban Garden on Tuesday and tells PEOPLE by phone from her jail cell, "I'm not thrilled about it, but I felt it was important to sustain my commitment."

The actress and about 25 immigrant farmers and their supporters were campaigning to save the 14-acre fruit and vegetable garden from planned demolition.

Hannah says:

"I spent the last 23 days down at the South Central farm, which is the largest urban farm in the nation and provides food for hundreds of families. The subsistence farmers are from one of the poorest communities. This farm should be a model for sustainable urban agriculture. It needs to be replicated, not eradicated."

For the past three weeks, Hannah and protest organizer John Quigley had been sitting 40 feet above the ground in a large walnut tree. Folk singer, Joan Baez and anti-logging activist Julia "Butterfly" Hill had also taken shifts in the tree, although neither was present when the arrests were made. Leonardo DiCaprio and Willie Nelson had also stopped by the garden in the past weeks to show their support.
