Well here we are it's the final of American Idol Series 5, after all those weeks of the good, the bad and the ugly it's down to the final 2.
Katharine McPhee and Taylor "The Silver Fox" Hicks will sing 3 songs each tonight and then tomorrow the results will be in and we will have a new American Idol!!
Katharine is going to start first
Singing - Black horse and the cherry tree
I think she sings this ok - better than when she goes completely over the top- not sure I like this song though. Randy says she looked like she was having fun, and she sang it better this time than the last time. Paula says a fun opening but she knows there's more to come. Simon says good with a small g - it was a warm up and the occasion was bigger than that song.
Taylor Hicks
Singing - Living for the city(?)
Hmmmm nice jacket Taylor(!). He sings this type of song well and is really comfortable on stage. Randy says he always makes the songs his own, and he's hot tonight. Paula says she's got his dance down, she loved it. Simon says great start, good song choice, worst jacket ever - Round 1 to him.
I think Round 1 to Taylor
Katharine McPhee
Singing - Somewhere over the Rainbow
She does sing this very very well - I think this is probably the best that she sings in the whole competition. Randy says she worked it out. Paula says she has god given talent. Simon says round 1 she was slaughtered but he truly believes this is her best performance of the competition - she is back in it.
Taylor Hicks
Singing - Levon
What can you say Taylor just suits these kind of songs. Randy says nice song but he thought it was a bit pitchy. Paula says it was just Taylor getting into the song. Simon says probably not as popular as the first song, he thinks Katharine takes the 2 round all to play for in the 3rd.
Round 2 to Katharine I think
Come on Taylor I really want you to win. Now the contestants will sing their debut songs, so we will see how they sound on an original song.
Katharine McPhee
Singing - My Destiny
Well it's a bit sickly sweet for me - not my kind of song, I don't like it at all. Ahhh Bless her Dad's crying again. Randy says she looks amazing, sounded really good but he did not like the song. Paula says she is brilliant. Simon says she went from brilliant from quite good in one song - and everyone who wants to vote for Kat to remember the second song.
Taylor Hicks
Singing - Do I make you Proud
Well it's a better song than Katharine's but both songs are a bit average ( think they need better songwriters!!!). For me Taylor's was the best in round 3. Randy says he makes every song his own vehicle. Paula says he is better than that song - but he was good. Simon says if he was right and the show was tied after round 2, then Taylor has just won American Idol - I think that means he liked his song better than Katharine's.
For me Round 3 was Taylor's.
So that means that I think based on the performances tonight that Taylor Hicks will be the new American Idol - I really hope that he is cos he is better than Katharine (in my opinion).

It's finals night, and we get to see who the final two are.
I said last night that I thought Elliott to go, I actually think Katharine has been the worst over the last few weeks, with the exception of her second song last night. So we will have to see what happens.
Last night there where 50 million votes!!!
The contestant got to go home last week
Taylor Hicks went home and ate loads of southern food - did loads of promotions and interviews. He even had a parade and Cheerleaders!!!! and of course he got the keys to the city from the mayor. He went to a shopping mall in Hoover and of course it was packed and he sang. The govener declares a Taylor Hicks Day.
It's all going to be the same for the others as well - I just wish we didn't have all the filling and that we could go direct to the results.
Now he's singing - Takin it to the Streets by the Dooby Brothers from the American Idol CD - and he's sounding good.
Now Katharine McPhee's up. She went home and of course lots of promotions ans interviews, she went up in a helicopter to her old school and the cheerleaders made a cheer for her ( how sweet) - Oh and she gets her own day as well, what a surprise!
She's singing - Think by Aretha Franklin, off the CD - she's sounding ok.
Elliott Yamin went home and oh surprise did lots of promotions and interviews!!! of course he gets his own day as well. He go back to where he used to work and then back into town to sing for them all. He also gets a parade but where are his cheerleaders??? He throws the first pitch at the ball park,
He's singing - Moodys mood for love (I think) - he did this one before I think it's his mums favourite. Ahh Bless
At last the results are coming up after the break
They've brought Clive Davis on and he's waffling about how good AI is and how all the contestants have done from previous AI's - JUST GET ON WITH IT and give us the results.
Ok here we go
33.06% - 33.26% - 33.68% That's how the votes went - it was that close.
Elliott Yammin goes home tonight - I got it right but I wish I hadn't.
So our final two are Taylor "The Silver Fox" Hicks and Katharine McPhee - I really hope that Taylor Wins.
Alex 17th May 2006
It's the semi-finals tonight and the contestants are going to sing 3 songs, one they have chosen, one the judges have chosen and one that music produce Clive Davis has chosen.
Have to say that i'm still in a bit of shock about Chris going, so I hope The Silver Fox has a good night and makes it to the final, otherwise i'm not going to have anyone in the final that i'm supporting!!
Songs chosen by Clive Davis
First up
Elliott Yamin
Singing - Open Arms by Journey
This shows off Elliott's voice and emotions really well. Randy says he works it out. Paula says he's in excellent voice he did a great job. Simon says good song choice but not his best performance though - he needs to get loose and believe that he can get to the finals.
Katharine McPhee
Singing - I believe I can fly by R Kelly
This suits her voice and her songs but i'm not a big fan of warblers (ie mariah and whitney!). Randy says looks amazing but not the right thing for her. Paula says she looks beautiful by the song !!!! Simon says apart from a couple of bum notes towards the end she created a moment for herself.
Taylor Hicks
Singing Dancing in the Dark by Bruce Springstein
This works - go Taylor. Randy says he knows how to have a good time. Paula says he's incredible. Simon says that was Ok.
Songs by the Judges next
Elliott Yamin
Singing - What you wont do for love by Bobby Caldwell chosen by Paula
This is a good song choice for him but I don't think it's got enough personality. Randy says not his best performance a bit sharp. Paula says this is the type of song he should be singing. Simon says not the best song in the world but he sang it well.
Katharine McPhee chosen by Simon
Singing - Somewhere over the Rainbow by Judy Garland
This is really good - not overproduced or over the top like she normally does. Randy says finally this is what he has been waiting for - her best vocal. Paula says her magic is when she dosen't go overboard. Simon says he's happy for her - that was the single best performance of the competition.
Taylor Hicks
Singing - You are so beautiful by Joe Cocker chosen by Randy
So good, thanks Randy i've been wanting Taylor to sing a Joe Cocker song from the first - I knew it would be good. Randy says a great tender moment. Paula says he looks like a star, and he is a star. Simon says so far and away his best performance, he loved it. He even thanks Randy for the choice!!!
Contestants choice
Elliott Yamin
Singing - I believe to my soul by Ray Charles
Elliott's good but he's just missing something tonight, don't think he's got a big enough personality for this song. Randy says dosen't think this is the best song for him. Paula not the best song but he can sing it well. Simon says he is a great guy and a great singer but his songs will not carry him through, but no matter what happens now he's made his mum very proud.
Katharine McPhee
Singing - I ain't got nothing but the blues by Ella Fitzgerald
Katharine just goes over-the-top on the production of these songs, I like it when she sings simple. Randy says it was Ok . Paula says over the rainbow was better. Simon says overall a good night but that was just Ok. He wishes the order could have been reversed so that she finished with Over the Rainbow because that's how he want's her to be remembered.
Taylor Hicks
Singing - Try a little Tenderness by Otis Reading
This suits Taylor - he's had a good night tonight Go The Silver Fox!!! Randy says he got a new name for him it's "have a good time funky" Taylor. Paula says incredible job. Simon says smart choice of song, good singing hideous ending but he will see him next week.
So best tonight by a mile was Taylor Hicks, the other two had good points and bad points, but I have to choose one to go home and I think Elliott is probably one to go this week. Not because Katharine was so good but she had one stand out song in Somewhere over the Rainbow and I think that will send her through. Then again I could be completely wrong - what do you all think?????
Alex 11th May 2006
It's results night again - by the end of tonight we will be down to the final 3. Last night I said that Katharine would go, this is because she had the worst night - but now it really comes down to how many fans each contestant has. So we will just have to wait and see.
So we've had the Elvis medley let's just get on with the results now.
Ryan has them all on stage Taylor & Elliott on one side, Chris and Katharine on the other - one pair are the highest one pair are the lowest. God another break - how many breaks can you take in 30 mins????
Taylor and Elliott are safe
Katharine is safe CHRIS is going home NO WAY what the hell happened.
WOW Katharine was way worse than Chris last night - Well I didn't see that coming!!!!
Alex 10th May 2006
The final four sing tonight on American Idol Series 5. Tonight they are going to sing Elvis Presley songs and music guru Tommy Motola will be there to give his opinion of them.
Taylor Hicks
Singing - Jailhouse Rock
Well The Silver Fox is enjoying this - doing his dance moves and everything. Randy says he was in his element - way to start the show. Paula say phenominal. Simon says in the real world it was a terrible impersonation of Elvis and the dancing was hideous - karaoke with a capital K.
Chris Daughtry
Singing - suspicious minds
This is my hubby's party piece - now do I tell him Chris is doing a better job or not!!!! Randy says dosen't think it was the best vocal performance from him. Paula says see you in the finals. Simon says That Worked.
Elliott Yamin
Singing - If I could dream
Don't know this song - to me it was a shakey start but better at the end, well I think so anyway. Randy says he laid it out - it was hot. Paula says best vocal performance from him. Simon says he came in tonight as the underdog but that was the best performance so far tonight. Shows what I know hey!!
Katharine McPhee
Singing - Hound Dog
Don't really know what to think about this - it's sounds a bit of a mess to me. Randy says it was fun but she missed a lyric. Paula says it was fun. Simon says it looked like a manic audition - for him it wasn't a great performance.
Taylor Hicks
Singing - In the Ghetto
Very restrained, very soulful, very good. Randy says Right key, right song he should make this a record - that was hot. Paula says it shows a whole new side to him. Simon says perfect song - he has just sung his way into the semi-final.
Chris Daughtry
Singing - Little less conversation
Chris just looks like this is no effort for him - maybe needs a bit more personality - oops there it is at the end. Randy says right key for him it was hot. Paula says she adores him. Simon says up until the end it was a bit flat.
Elliott Yamin
Singing - Trouble
Elliott's had a good night tonight - I like this better than his first one. Randy says it was his best performance ever. Paula says she's changed her mind THIS was the best performance ever. Simon says he's come out fighting and he deserves to go through to the next round.
Katharine McPhee
Singing - Can't help falling in love
This is better than the first one - don't know if it's enough to save her though - she's struggling against the band. Randy says Better than the first and a bit pitchy. Paula says she has a lovely voice. Simon says not one of her best nights - it was too over the top.
Well tonight I thought the boys outsang Katharine, she could be in trouble.
If it goes on performance I think Katharine will go tomorrow.
