Cher is auctioning off her clothes for charity.

The singer - famed for her unique sense of style - has revealed she will sell some of her professional and personal wardrobe at Sotheby's and Julien's auction houses.

She said:

"I am beginning a new chapter in my career and have decided to rewrite my personal environment, my home."

Among the 200 pieces of clothing to be auctioned is the original Bob Mackie dress she wore to the Oscars in 1986 and a black net gown with multicoloured dots worn in 1974 on TV show 'The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour'.

The Oscar-winning 'Moonstruck' actress also plans to auction off furniture, including her Gothic brass bed, artwork and jewellery.

The auction is expected to raise more than $1 million and will be held in October. Some of the money raised will go to The Cher Charitable Foundation.
