Richie and Goldstein Split - Again

Nicole Richie and Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein are off again.

The couple said in a statement released by Richie's publicist, Cindy Guagenti.

"We are confirming that we have amicably separated,"

Richie and Goldstein began dating in 2004 and announced their engagement a year later in February 2005. But in early December, Richie's rep confirmed that the wedding was off. However, by March of 2006, the couple were an item again.

A friend told PEOPLE at the time

"They decided to try again. They never stopped caring about each other. They really are so happy together. ... It was only a matter of time before they got back together."

Wasn't it only the other day that Nicole's Dad Lionel Richie was hinting that the couple where going to get married???
