Actress Cameron Diaz narrowly escaped a car crash, when a bird shattered the windscreen of her chauffeur-driven car.
Her silver Range Rover was hit by the bird as it sped along the A3 at Ripley, Surrey, at 65mph. It punched a huge hole in the windscreen, right in front of the driver.
Her driver somehow managed to keep the vehicle under control, then pulled into a nearby garage despite suffering minor cuts. Cameron, who had been sitting in the front passenger seat, was showered with glass.
A motorist at the garage, who spoke to the chauffeur shortly after the crash, told the 'Sunday Mirror':
"There is no doubt that he saved Cameron's life. Other drivers would have panicked and lost control but he remained very cool. All you had to do was look at the damage to the windscreen to realise there had been one hell of an impact. I thought someone had thrown a brick from a bridge or something. "The driver said he had been travelling at around 65mph when he saw a bird flying across from a field at the side of the road. They both instinctively ducked, hoping that it would miss them, but it smashed straight into the windscreen on the driver's side.
"Cameron apparently screamed, 'Oh my God!' and was covered in broken glass.
"I think they both realised that they'd had a lucky escape
Cameron's bodyguard, who had been following them, then took the actress the last eight miles to the village of Shere, where she is filming romantic comedy 'The Holiday' with Jude Law and Kate Winslet.
