The Brit Awards, the biggest night in the British music calendar, were hosted by Chris Evans from London's Earls Court Arena last night. They will be shown on TV TONIGHT.


The night belonged to new musical talent, but the oldies of the music industry were still represented as Madonna won Best International Female. She was accompanied to the ceremony by husband Guy Ritchie, despite being dogged by rumours their marriage is in trouble.



When Madonna's name was read out, Ritchie went to kiss his wife, but she appeared to turn away. And in her acceptance speech, she thanked everyone except Ritchie. The singer even thanked Stuart Price, the British producer with whom she has been linked. She ended her speech:

"Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank all of my British fans because without you I would just be another singer from across the pond."

!!! Ohhh that doesn't look good for the couple.


Paul Weller was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Music award and closed the show with a string of solo hits and Jam classics. He said:

"It's been a great 30 years and there's a few more years left, hopefully."

There were also wins for Lemar (Best British Urban Act), Kanye West (Best International Male), Jack Johnson (Best International Breakthrough) Yeah great singer and Green Day (Best International Group and Best International Album)yep like them too.


Although the night belonged to British talent, the best performances of the show were from United States stars. Prince made his first appearance at the Brits since 1997. He rolled back the years with 1980s hits 'Purple Rain' and 'Let's Go Crazy', to an wonderful reception from the audience.


Rapper Kanye West was joined on stage for his song 'Gold Digger' by 77 scantily clad models wearing gold body paint and very little else!!!.


Presenters at the ceremony included Paris Hilton, Kelly Osbourne, Debbie Harry and Boy George, fresh from his court appearance in New York.
