Supermodel Kate Moss's former boyfriend, the British rock star Pete Doherty, was sent to prison on remand after admitting to yet another drug offence.

A judge at Thames Magistrates' Court in east London locked up the 26-year-old Babyshambles frontman pending sentencing next month after he pleaded guilty to possessing heroin. This was his third drugs admission this month.

Plain-clothes police arrested him on Whitechapel Road in east London Thursday afternoon because he looked dishevelled, suspicious and was a known drug user, the court was told.

A search uncovered a wrap of white powder in his jeans, prompting Doherty to protest: "It was in my pocket from earlier. I didn't even know it was there. Please, officers, don't do this. I've got a gig tonight. Cut me a break."

Judge Stephen Dawson rejected an application from Doherty's lawyer to again release him on bail ahead of the February 8 sentencing, apologising: "I'm sorry if my order will affect your fans and people who go to your concerts."

Doherty and Babyshambles had been due to play in Glasgow on Friday night, Bristol on Saturday, and London on Sunday.

At the February 8 hearing, he will be sentenced for a number of other drugs possession offences he admitted at two separate court hearings earlier this month.
