A scene from 'Thank You for Smoking' staring Katie Holmes and Aaeron Eckhart had mysteriously disappeared when it came to showing at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
In the film, based on a best seller by Christopher Buckley, Holmes plays an investagitive reporter and Eckhart a Tobacco Lobbyist, enjoy a randy romp. The scene was still in the movie when it showed at last year's Toronto Film Festival, but it had gone from the Sundance screenings, causing some people to speculate as to whether fiance Tom Cruise had used his showbiz clout to get rid of the footage.
New York Post's Page Six reports that a spokesperson for Fox distribution didn't know what had happened; 'The film will absolutely be released with that scene in, we are looking into what happened'.
When director Jason Reitman was asked about it at a Q & A session he joked that it had been lost in a 'technical glitch' during a reel change. When asked the same question at another screening he joked 'If you want to see a sex scene with Katie Holmes rent 'The Gift' - the 2000 movie where she appears topless'.
